Brian Anderson, The Tick Terminator

I’ve had a wild fascination with those stinking little bloodsuckers we call ticks since I was a kid. Yep, I even enjoyed searching for them, perched on a blade of grass, just waiting for their next victim. I remember using a magnifying glass to zap them on the sidewalk—and later, passing that “skill” on to my grandkids. Back then, I never really worried about ticks. They were just sneaky little pests, like mosquitoes, only after a little bit of my blood. We never talked about Lyme disease or any real dangers from tick bites. In fact, it wasn’t until about 25 years ago that I even heard of Lyme disease—but even then, I didn’t think much of it.

Meanwhile, my wife absolutely despised ticks. She was terrified of them! So, around 2010, I started thinking: How can I keep from bringing these things into the house? What should I do with my clothes when I come inside? That’s when my research really kicked into high gear. I started experimenting in the basement—sometimes by myself, sometimes with the grandkids—just to learn more. Then, a close friend of mine nearly died from Lyme disease, and that’s when I got serious. My biggest discovery? Permethrin—a powerful tick and insect repellent. A year later, I launched my website because, while there were plenty of resources on Lyme disease, there wasn’t much out there about prevention. That became my new mission.

Since then, I’ve been a guest on podcasts, radio shows, outdoor TV programs, and have spoken at safety conferences across the country. I’ve even earned the nickname The Tick Terminator—complete with a logo featuring a tick shaped like a hand grenade! The name alone makes people smile (and yes, I bet you’re smiling right now 😊). My goal is to share solid, practical information about these nasty little bloodsuckers in a way that’s both fun and memorable. A little humor goes a long way in helping people retain what they’ve learned—keeping them safer in tick territory, teaching them how to protect themselves, and knowing what to do if bitten.

I live in the Iron Mountain, MI area, right on the northern Wisconsin border in Upper Michigan. My wife and I have been married for almost 44 years—we were high school sweethearts, and she’s been the love of my life ever since. We have two adult kids and four amazing grandkids. We love walking in the woods, exploring waterfalls, biking, snowshoeing, and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy deer hunting, but the highlight of our week is Sunday mornings at church, worshiping our incredible Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
